I am not the first to compare these two, but I think there is a helpful analogy here.
Process Improvements:
* Golf without lessons is where many people are today in business. They understand the objective and many of the rules, but their process is highly undocumented and mostly self-taught.
* Golf with lessons is similar to documenting your process in Visio and creating SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures). It helps, but it doesn't mean that you do it all the time.
* A professional golfer spends hours everyday training their muscles to understand a specific swing. They work on the exceptions (e.g., sand, rough) to know how to handle each situation. And, they have have their experiences codified to understand the wind, weather, greens, and different distances.
Benefits:
* Reduced cycle time - A professional round is quicker than some of the 5-6 hour rounds that us amateurs experience.
* Lower cost - A professional can often play a round (or more) with one golf ball (and win many bets or touraments).
* Increased satisfaction - A professional creates lots of satisfaction for their sponsors by their repetition and reliability.
So...why doesn't every business want to be a professional golfer and use BPM to design, codify, and optimize their processes?
Quite inspiring,
Keep up the good work,
Thanks for writing, most people don't bother.

golf ball was invented and used in nearly 250 years. These bullets were made by stuffing wet goose feathers in a wet leather ball in hand. As it dries shrunken leather and feathers expanded creating a ball hard and compact. This lengthy process has been covered with prices beyond the reach of the masses, often sells more than the price of a club.
